METRO BOOMIN: A FUTURISTIC SUMMA

A MASTERCLASS IN MUSIC COMPOSITION, A BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR ATLANTA NATIVES

When Metro Boomin announced he was creating a project with only artists based from Atlanta, people were excited to hear what it would sound like. After all, Metro Boomin has always been known to make modern trap sound beats, so how would he fare when Waka Flocka Flame hopped on his beat, what about TI? Rappers who have since passed the torch to up and coming Atlanta artists to shine.

We know Metro Boomin has incredible alchemy with the likes of 21 Savage, Quavo, 2 Chainz, as Metro has a proven track record of working alongside those giants of the modern sound in Atlanta, so some were still skeptical as to whether Metro Boomin could deliver or not. Naturally so.

With the month of July packed with incredibly good music, we needn’t waiting long to hear the first big hip-hop project of August, with A Futuristic Summa offering something completely different altogether. Metro Boomin took to X to let people know:

I’m from Southside, we outside
Baby, lean your head back, open your mouth wide
Heard she lookin’ for a gift, I told her I’m the walking prize
You can tell that ass real by the size of her thighs
— Waka Flocka Flame on Clap
Catch me in the club, throwin’ money like a QB
N**** goin’ blind like diamond got UV
Ridin’ with the toolie, broads wanna do me
Debt-fresh Louis, iceberg goofy
Cartiers on, make a n**** look goofy
Bull horn shawty, make your main ho a groupie
— Young Dro on WTF Goin

With that being said, the discourse surrounding Metro’s A Futuristic Summa has certainly gotten people talking, with many claiming that the sound of the project is an outdated one, whist Atlanta natives who grew up in the city in the late nineties, early 2000s are excited to be bumping the project.

Our main focus is to review the project, from front to back, with no bias and most definitely always with rigorous journalistic skills.
