Your Old Droog links up with Nicholas Craven on this new project: YOD WAVE.
After releasing Tha Wolf on Wall St Pt 2 with Tha God Fahim earlier this year, the Ukrainian born rapper is back with this 7-track body of work. Fela Kruti is the opener and is a very solid track all around, YOD has some very solid bars as he always does. « I make music for people who check their emails in the club », very relatable, I might be amongst those who do. I’m
YOD Wave features Mach-Hommy and Tha God Fahim on his second project of the year, and Droog announced almost immediately on Twitter that another project was coming next month, we’re feasting.
Scooby Snacks featuring Mach-Hommy is exquisite, from the way YOD lays his verse first, to Nicholas Craven’s sample and Mach-Hommy harmonising, allowing Droog to talk his shit. « Every classic they make, I got 10 of them »
The transition to .500 is so smooth for what seems to sound like Nicholas Craven and YOD accelerating the tempo of YOD Wave. Heavier on bars, and the cadence approached is scary, YOD is nice with his flow, his bars, and the argument he is pointing across. “Name another rapper that goes as hard as me, I part the sea just like Moses with my artistry, this industry on my mother I’ll run it, when it’s half a beat I’mma need another 500.”
Purple Rain Freestyle (Game, Blouses) is another example of Craven’s excellent cohesion with Droog and his ability to adapt with all the talented artists surrounding him, YOD’s flow is incredible.
The track titled Lost Love is a song many artists envy making, from rappers to producers, both elements of rapping and producing on this track make for a polished result. It isn’t a long song per se but it goes straight to the point and there is no need for any more elements to be added in.
After they dropped Tha Wolf on Wall Street Pt 2 just over a month ago, both Tha God Fahim and Your Old Droog link up on both Black N Red Huaraches and Body Right, Mind Right. “Droog trialled so many records my hands gon hurt after the concert” “Number one advice, don’t take anybodys advice.” as Droog says respectively on Black N Red Huaraches and Body Right, Mind Right. On the latter track, the piano is sonically peaceful and so addicting, both tracks featuring Fahim are sonically different which portrays just how talented both rappers are and demonstrates that there aren’t many artists who can claim they are as consistent as these two with their craft.
There isn’t much criticism to point out on YOD Wave, we know what to expect with Your Old Droog and everyone he collaborates with, and with Nicholas Craven on the production too, you’re always bound to hear sounds you love.
